Jason Huneke to perform at The Commons

You saw him perform on America’s Got Talent. Now you can see him perform live at The Commons. Jason Huneke brings his unique act to Columbus for First Fridays for Families at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 4 in The Commons. All First Fridays for Families programs are free and open to the public.

Known nationally for his Michael Jackson dance routine on America’s Got Talent, it is Jason Huneke’s comedic juggling act that sets him apart from other entertainers. In fact, he has been juggling since he was quite young. “I actually started juggling when I was 12 years old. I went to a juggling club near my hometown in Minnesota,” said Huneke. “And I’ve been juggling since.” However, Jason waited a couple years to start performing in shows. “I started doing shows when I was 14. Since then I have continued to improve my act and have added different types of juggling through the years,” said Huneke. Jason not only juggles the regular balls and bowling pins typical of juggling acts, but sometimes throws knives into the mix. He often does all this while balancing on a unicycle.

It’s not just his juggling abilities that will leave kids, young and old, mesmerized. His charisma and use of audience members in his act combine to create a fast-paced performance. “Although First Fridays for Families is geared towards school-aged children, we like to bring in performers that also appeal to parents and grandparents,” said Tami Sharp, director of programming for the Arts Council. “Jason is just one of those performers. He is a headliner on Carnival Cruise Lines and performs regularly for national corporate events,” added Sharp.

Before heading to The Commons to see Jason Huneke’s act, families can take advantage of kidscommons’ Free Family Fun Time. On the first Friday of each month kidscommons offers free admission to families from 4 PM until 6 PM. On Friday, January 4, kidscommons will partner with the Bartholomew County History Center to present “Taste of India,” which will introduce children to Indian culture through crafts, food, and music.

First Fridays for Families is a free arts program geared toward children in pre-kindergarten through third grade. All First Fridays for Families programs begin at 6:00 PM on the first Friday of each month from November through April and are held in the Nugent Custer Performance Hall in The Commons in downtown Columbus. Arthur Smith of the Arts Council said, “This is a great way to introduce the arts to a young audience. And thanks to our generous title sponsor, Old National Bank, these programs are free.”
