Location: Bartholomew County Courthouse Lawn, 234 Washington Street
Comprised of 25 Indiana limestone pillars, each 40-feet high, arranged in a 5 x 5 grid. The rough exterior is said to represent soldier’s standing guard over their fallen comrades. The interior walls are smooth and are engraved with the names of Bartholomew County residents who gave their lives in war, along with excerpts from diaries and last letters home. Though monumental, the piece offers a meditative and intimate experience.
