The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced that it will continue accepting nominations for the 2013 Governor’s Arts Awards to late January. Guidelines and nomination form are available on the IAC website (www.in.gov/arts) and will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. (EST) January 25, 2013.
“The holidays are a very busy time, and we want to make certain those wishing to make nominations have plenty of opportunity to do so,” said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. “We also want to give our new in-coming governor an opportunity to have a representative involved in the selection process.”
Nominations originally made, but not selected for the 2011 awards will automatically be reconsidered for 2013. However, nominators may wish to submit updated information if there are significant changes in their nominee’s accomplishments or contributions to the arts since the original nomination was made.
Governor Daniels presented the 2011 awards to renowned opera singer Sylvia McNair, Bloomington; arts educator and concert harpist Susann McDonald, Bloomington; community arts patron and volunteer June Edwards, South Bend; concert pianist and educator Alexander Toradze; South Bend; and actor, writer, arts educator Mark Fauser, Marion; and The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis during a special awards program in South Bend.
Originally conceived in 1973, the biennial awards recognize excellence in artistic achievement, philanthropy, arts education, and leadership in the arts, and at the same time build statewide awareness of the important role the arts play in Indiana.
